Jal Jeera
Spiced Cumin Water, Ice Cold
🌱 Beginner🥤 Drink🌿 Vegan⚡ 10 min
A thin, dark, very spiced drink made from cumin, mint, and tamarind. In India it's drunk before a meal because it stimulates the appetite — and because on a hot day, nothing tastes better.
🌱 Beginner: Nothing here can go wrong. If you can boil pasta, you can cook this.

- Blend the mint, coriander, tamarind, and spices with 200 ml water into a smooth paste.
- Strain through a sieve into a jug and top up with the remaining cold water.
- Taste — it should be salty-sour, not sweet. Chill for at least an hour.
- Serve with plenty of ice.
Tips
- Straining matters: otherwise the mint fibers make the drink fuzzy on the tongue.
- With sparkling water instead of still, it becomes what's sold in India as Jal Jeera Soda.
